The Property

Cottage Farm will be a welcoming, warm environment that enhances the sense of belonging and respectfulness for all on site. The buildings and landscape design will work with the natural beauty and agricultural nature of the area. Clients and some of the staff will live at Cottage Farm and it is this mix of residents that creates the feeling of a community.

The residential and administrative part of Cottage Farm will occupy less than 5 acres of the property.

Residents will live in 4 lodges that have private bedrooms and common areas, including kitchen, laundry and living rooms. Each lodge will have overnight staff living with the residents. In the lodges, clients will learn daily living skills, including such things as meal preparation and house cleaning.

The main administrative building will house the kitchen and dining area (to serve up to 100 people), along with offices, counseling and meeting rooms, a library and a common lounge area.

Outdoor areas will include a gazebo for meetings and a number of quiet meditation spaces.

Farming

The property is 64 acres, at least 10 of which will be farmed organically. The farmed land will include orchards, berry fields and vegetable fields, with the farmer and family living on the property. Farming operations will also include a barn that houses animals and farm equipment, along with natural greenhouses (with no artificial lighting).

An additional building will house a space for creative arts and woodworking / shop equipment.

Residences for staff, volunteers and families

Staff: Some of the staff may choose to live on site. Staff living on site can significantly enhance the sense of community in this type of program. There would be two available accommodations for families of 4 people.

Volunteers: At any given time there could be 6 volunteers living and working on site. For example, people engaged in the WWOOF program (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) or in health related internships, may choose to work at Cottage Farm. An accommodation for volunteers would include 6 bedrooms.

Families of Residents: A cottage to accommodate visiting families will provide 3 double occupancy bedrooms.
