“Everyone needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in, places to pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”
– John Muir

Cottage Farm is a proposed healing community for people with mental illness. Our hope is to develop it on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Working in nature, and living in a safe, caring environment can help people recover and gain independence in ways traditional settings don’t.

Farming therapeutic communities have existed in the United States and Europe for more than 100 years and the benefits of recovery in nature have been well documented. (“Care Farming in the UK” – Hine, Peacock and Pretty Int. J. Therapeutic Communities, 29, 3, Autumn, 2008)

Cottage Farm, by offering a place of belonging and support, will help break the cycle of mental illness, isolation, homelessness and addiction, particularly among young people.

From Shadow to Light 2

This second benefit concert for Cottage Farm was held at the Chan Centre in Vancouver on November 27th, 2010. The event featured uplifting song, Irish Dance, and a spectacular newly-commissioned dance performed by the Pro Arte Dance School.

This ground – breaking work was accompanied by the vibrant and passionate music of Karl Jenkins’ popular “Adiemus”, sung by a massed choir of over 100 voices.
